Take the soul out of those holidays and this is what's left: a day of great mystery and redemption mutated into a trivial greedfest centered around painted eggs, hopping bunnies, and chocolate.

Just like Christmas has been co-opted by Santa, reindeer, and more greed.

Yeah, cuz Heaven knows, every Yankee is a piece of trash, and every Southerner a hero.

Happy Easter, everyone.

Just last week, my little ones and I were at a large park having fun. We saw one area of the park, a small enclosed Meadow, if you will, was being used as an Easter Egg Hunt, and every hour they were setting it up and letting in a certain number of families. It did not look like any hunt. They just lay plastic eggs all over the ground, basically covering it (I am assuming candy was inside the plastic eggs). Then they let in the families with instructions not to run, but it was really a free for all grab all the eggs on the ground.

It didn’t look fun, it didn’t convey any spirit of anything (I realize the eggs and rabbits aren’t really Christian but you’d think there would be some decency to one’s fellow man even at a fun celebration for coreligious brethren). It was just people racing around fighting for eggs lying all over the ground.

I had thought, and seen, years ago, that Easter Egg Hunts were where the eggs are concealed and the children go around and hunt for them. Which seems a lot more fun and even photogenic. When did this melée version begin?

I have also seen Easter egg throws (like balloon toss contests) with real hard boiled Easter eggs, and Easter egg rolls (isn’t that what they do at the White House?). As a child our family was invited to one in an old home in Pasadena with a great sloping lawn. That was fun, and even the adults took their rolling techniques very seriously.

The melée eggs on the ground thing should be discouraged.

Isn’t Obamaland great?

Why don’t you shut your bigoted face and go pay your taxes. :)

“acting like West Haven, CT”

I grew up in Danbury, but took a job nearby West Haven, in Milford. In 1980, the term “Westie” was not one of endearment.
