I’m sure someone will be severely disciplined—or even promoted.

Homeschooling is good, but not always An option for everyone. I don’t think it’s a good idea to put blame on a parent doing the best he/she can.

My son was a federal k9 police officer with a Belgian malinois bomb sniffing dog who lived with us. I know a little about explosives training.

Thank God it was only explosives.

The Feds could have tampered with the engine computer to report less than actual NOX output ala Volkswagen. Then the Earth would have burst into flames and several species could have been severely inconvenienced.

s/ big-time.

So the Feds think it’s a good idea as a “training exercise” to pack a school bus used by children with explosives. Then, they are so incompetent they forget to remove the explosives before putting the bus back in service.

We are so screwed.

Authorities did not identify which federal agency was involved or exactly what the explosives material was.

“Hey Mom, look at this gray Play-Doh I found on the bus!”

Inert training aids used by explosive dog handlers that has trace elements of specific types of explosive to “train and test” the dog and their handlers ability to find it in other than a training site. Been done for the 45 years I’v been doing EOD work in DOD /DOE Used to be actual explosives such as M112 block of C4 or TNT, Dynamite, Anfo Kinepak, TATP, black powder and the best “explosive” ..... a whiteboard “dry erase marker”....now the detection kit samples are inert but STINK enough for the puppy to pause and alert on.

That said there are smaller departments of local yokel LEO’s that will be tasked by feds to play the detector dog parts of their exercise at times, versus the fed or DOD bomb dogs, that will bring real explosives in a small quantity that are not inert but safe without detonators etc.... they can’t afford those inert sector samples that contains only about enough real uxo that you might get from under one of you fingernails ..... they will hide a half pound of explosives or so....

The handler and the evaluator are responsible for the sources at all times.....

Not defending their screw up.... just describing how I’ve seen the exercises conducted over the span my career.....

Best cure for such is to go to your local chief of police, county sheriff and hold THEM responsible for allowing such in their area of responsibility......letter to editor, school board, etc ..... bad press is good method to put em on the spot to change SOP for such “training” in public areas.

Stay Safe !
