Google “pen gun.” It turns out that there are a lot of small, highly concealable single shot guns in .22 LR an .25 ACP made in the shape of pens. Letting anybody with a “pen” in her hand close to a SS protectee, unless she's specifically authorized to be there, which Fields wasn't, is an invitation to an assassination attempt.
