The chairman of the Republican Party in American Samoa, Utu Abe Malae, began feeling the pressure almost immediately: phone calls, commitment forms, anything the presidential campaigns could do, say or send to nail down his support as a delegate.
Ken Callahan, a district chairman for the North Dakota Republican Party, is perpetually fielding calls not just from the campaigns, but also from neighbors and friends who, excited by the process that is starting to unfold, are interested in becoming delegates themselves. I receive, I would say, 10 to 15 calls a day, he said, and it doesnt stop on weekends, either.
And Holland Redfield, a Republican delegate and former lawmaker in the Virgin Islands, had a special call-in guest on his radio program the other day: Gov. John Kasich of Ohio, who promised more than just lip service to the islands if he became president. After years of being treated like second-class citizens by mainland politicians, Mr. Redfield said, we are in the catbird seat. Theres going to be some hard bargaining.
Suddenly, they matter: For the first time in 40 years, the delegates to the Republican National Convention could be more than just a rubber stamp on their partys nomination process.

You won’t believe the bribes that will fly. I researched the law in Ohio and it is illegal as hell but you will see incredible payoffs in other states that don’t have the specific statute that Ohio does. Let me warn that if the Gope opens up this gate , TRUMP WILL FINISH THE GAME. The world will be watching.
My sense is they should just be bought off.
A cool million each for 1237 delegates is only $1,237,000,000
Mere Trump change.
This has nothing to do with the GOPe opening a gate. It’s about what happens if nobody wins a majority of the delegates.
I beg to differ respectfully. You will not believe what will happen if the Gope fails to observe the will of the people. You will need a seat belt. Trump is 2 million votes ahead of anyone else. Don’t piss those millions off. They aren’t that stupid to take a screwing.
You beg to differ about what? It will be a contest convention if Trump fails to win a majority of delegates. That's not some GOPe plot, that's just not winning a majority.
I guess everyone has a price.
“You beg to differ about what? It will be a contest convention if Trump fails to win a majority of delegates. That’s not some GOPe plot, that’s just not winning a majority. “
yeah, right. sure. if the convention doesn’t nominate the guy with the most delegates and the most number of primary votes, they can kiss their party goodbye. Apparently they haven’t noticed that their rank-and-file is in a full blown revolt precisely because they’ve figured you that their votes don’t count except in the general election, and then only until a couple of weeks after the election is over, at which point whomever has been elected immediately stabs the voters in the back and joins their Democrat compatriots in furthering the leftist agenda.
Of course, on the other hand, the GOPe doesn’t really care whether it wins or not, just so long as they get to keep a seat at the table, and with a Trump Presidency, they don’t get to keep their seat at the table, which is why the GOPe wants to lose at all costs rather than have Trump win.
So the rules only apply to everyone else, not Donald Trump? The Republican nomination is not decided on the basis of plurality. It requires 1237 votes.for the nomination. He either has them or he doesn’t. If he doesn’t then it’s anyone’s game.
Sorry, no special rules for Mr. Trump.
Trump may get to 1237 just by getting enough of the unbound delegates to vote for him. I can see falling a little short of the mark after the last primaries, the media declaring there will be an open/contested/brokered convention, Megyn Kelly jumping for joy, and then Trump gets enough of the unbound delegates to put him over the top.
Reality and all that matters.
Trump will have 1100-1300 delegates, next closest is Cruz with 700-800, GoPe is not suicidal, Trump wins on the first ballot if needed, GoPe to negotiate for VP.
Cruz is out. Guaranteed.
This race was over after Trump’s beat down of Cruz in Fl and Oh, Gope wants to hold on to Senate and House seats.
Thats more or less what happened in 76.
