yes, Jesus washed the feet of DISCIPLES.
Francis, good intentions aside, is washing the feet of impenitent pagans.
I can understand breaking bread with them and showing them love, but the foot washing of Jesus was, if I understand correctly, a way for Jesus to show he was going to serve those in His Kingdom....He even told his ambitious disciples that the greatest among them would be their servant.
While Jesus did befriend “sinners”, he did so to point them to himself.
Someone let me know if I am off theologically here.
You are not off.

(Jesus) came to Simon Peter. Lord, Peter said to Him, Are you going to wash my feet?
Jesus replied, You dont realize now what I am doing. But later you will understand.
No, said Peter. You will never wash my feet.
Jesus answered, Unless I wash you, you cant share life with Me.
Lord, Simon Peter replied, not just my feet! Wash my hands and my head too!
Jesus answered, “A person who has had a bath needs to wash only his feet. The rest of his body is clean. And you are clean. But not all of you are. - John 13:6-10

I’m not sure where it says Jesus kissed their feet, either.
Jesus expected the 12 --- or maybe, 11 of them --- to go out and do likewise: exercise servant-leadership.
I am not sure, but I don't think that point was even obscurely made by Pope Francis on Holy Thursday. Though I would love to be proved wrong.
