I'm sure a LOT has changed since I was there (85-86) but the OPs spread down the entire length of the Sinai are armed with ammo. Three contingents / three sectors, the southern sector being US, along with South Camp. South Camp is a lot like stateside bases, armed perimeter guards / reaction force, everyone else's weapon secured. Probably different now depending on threat level.

Expensive boondoggle since '82, mostly financed by US with the stated purpose of being buffer between Egypt and Israel, observing troop/weapons movements for UN.

Actually a suicide watch for Egypt to make sure they don't attack Israel.

Other than alert when Reagan bombed Qaddafi the only threat was to my liver. Bottle of Crown was $4.25
