90 percent of GOP insiders predict a contested convention
The Week ^ | 4/8/16

By robbing Donald Trump of a victory in Wisconsin on Tuesday, Ted Cruz increased the odds of a contested Republican convention. If you ask GOP insiders, though, they'll tell you the contested convention is pretty much a done deal — 90 percent of the experts who spoke with Politico said neither Ted Cruz nor Donald Trump will lock the delegates needed to take the nomination.

Only a month ago, just half of the same insiders group said there would be a contested convention, but Cruz has since shown resilience in states like Wisconsin, North Dakota, Colorado, and Wyoming.

"There is no way any candidate heads to Cleveland with 1,237 [delegates], and there is no way someone other than Ted Cruz or Donald Trump walks out of Cleveland with the nomination. Any talk of that is just speculation to fill airtime or wishful thinking among many Republicans," a Colorado Republican, who spoke anonymously like the rest of respondents, told Politico.

I think there’ll be a contested convention regardless of how many more wins Cruz has. The bosses will outmaneuver Trump and make him come up shy.

Kasich has just about what Trump needs.

Trump/Kasich may win on first ballot.

The problem with this whole primary is that Trump is picking up populous delegates and Cruz is simply picking up political delegates.

One needs to see how many actual voters were involved in each state. I'll bet it's 1000 to 1 in favor of Trump.

Trump is like a pigeon on a chessboard. Instead of playing the game set before him, he struts around, knocking over the pieces and crapping on the board and then he declares himself the winner.

I am not an insider and I predicted that months ago. Big Whoop!

And I bet just a month ago, no one would figure two candidates who cannot get to 1237 would still be in the race ... only to stop the front runner from getting there.

Never seen anything like this ...

Trump/Kasich may win on first ballot.

Evidently you know little about how things work. Kasich delegates have to vote for Kasich on the first ballot. They can't vote for Trump.

Here’s the other part of the story:

“...and there is no way someone other than Ted Cruz or Donald Trump walks out of Cleveland with the nomination. Any talk of that is just speculation to fill airtime or wishful thinking among many Republicans,” a Colorado Republican, who spoke anonymously like the rest of respondents, told Politico...”

No also-ran with a suspended campaign, who got a few percent.

The GOPee knows they’d light off a firestorm if they pulled any shenanigans like field some nothing burger.

Trump is like a pigeon on a chessboard. Instead of playing the game set before him, he struts around, knocking over the pieces and crapping on the board and then he declares himself the winner.

And Cruz doesn't have enough pieces left on the board to beat his opponent ... so he takes the captured white pieces and paints them black and sneaks them back on the board and prays nobody will notice.

That’s exactly why so many Republicans and Dems love him.

“Kasich delegates have to vote for Kasich on the first ballot. They can’t vote for Trump.”

True, and then they can vote for Cruz on the 2nd ballot!

And that arrogance will cause him to lose at a contested convention.

That’s because that’s what the insiders are praying for a contested convention. Its unlikely to occur. But that won’t stop the wall to wall hysteria on Fox and CNN for the next two months. We have turned it off and for the past two days we have felt peaceful for a change.

“Evidently you know little about how things work. Kasich delegates have to vote for Kasich on the first ballot. They can’t vote for Trump.”

That is variable, not true in all cases.

Yes they can vote for anybody they want. Kasich doesn't own them. Most states are like that. After the first ballot Trump doesn't own his delegates. Cruz doesn't own his delegates. Etc. There are some states that require allegiance to more than one ballot. The goal is for someone to get to 1237.

Kasich has just about what Trump needs.

Trump is my 1st choice, Cruz my 2nd choice. The socialist little weasel Kasich does not fit into that equation. I wouldnt vote for him for the pooper scooper job at the local park, let alone VP spot on the R ticket. Kasich = Hillary without all the felonious baggage.
