I think we took a slice of Washington State and a good bit of what became Maine from Canada. So the analogy doesn’t exactly hold, but I take your point.

Naw, we had the old "54 40' or fight" slogan was for getting all of the Louisiana Purchase that we paid France for but it never got anywhere.  Back in the 1700's Maine was part of "Boston" and Canada was the 14th colony.  We tried to invade Canada twice, the first time Gen. Benedict Arnold flubbed it and the second time ended w/ the Canadians burning Washington DC.

Canada's always been a thorn in our side.
