Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders arrived in Rome on Friday to attend a Vatican conference steeped in his lifelong passions of economic and social justice, briefly departing New York just days before its critical primary to show solidarity with the teachings of Pope Francis.
Sanders made the trip hours after Thursday night's Brooklyn debate with rival Hillary Clinton and said the opportunity to address the Vatican conference was too meaningful to pass up. The roughly 24-hour visit will precede a crucial New York primary against the former secretary of state on Tuesday.

I haven’t seen any numbers, but my hunch is he did.
They voted Obama, and usually don’t see a socialist they don’t like.

Not so. The Bern is going to attend a conference on Social and Economic Justice - no Pope. Nor is there any indication that Bern has a meeting.
Have to hand it to that old guy, Bernie. After a long grueling debate with Hilliay he hops on a 8 hour flight to Rome and gives a huge speech shortly after arriving. He has a lot more energy than I.
But thats all I admire.
The chancellor for the pontifical academy, Bishop Marcelo Sanchez Sorondo, has said he invited Sanders because he was the only U.S. presidential candidate who showed deep interest in the teachings of Francis.
Sander's would not be there if the Vatican and Pope Francis did not agree with Sander's positions on Communism and Sander's support of totalitarian governments that persecute and imprison Catholics.
Sanders would not have been invited if they did not approve of his position on partial birth abortion.
The hierarchy and Pope Francis are evil men.

Typical liberal has the guts to use religion to distort his views......on the day Bernie Sanders accepts the teachings of Jesus Christ such as marriage between a man and a woman only, as well as condemnation of abortion and murder of a human being......then I would believe his sincerity.
Pandering to the substantial NY Catholic vote since HRC is a self-proclaimed Methodist, Bernie sees an opening here. Good move, although I am not a Bernie fan I loathe the Clintons and would love to see her and Bill lose again.
