Wearing pants WAS cultural appropriation to the ancient Romans. They thought it was effeminate for men to do so, and they looked down on the barbarians that did. As the legions expanded the reach of the Empire to colder climes, the value of the garment became obvious and old ideas were cast aside.

Of course civilization IS cultural appropriation. The exchange of ideas drives the world forward. I won't accuse LeBron James of cultural appropriation because he excels at a game invented by whites and I won't bad mouth Chuck Norris for excelling at martial arts developed by Asians.
