Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro delivered a valedictory speech Tuesday to the Communist Party that he put in power a half-century ago, telling party members he will soon die and exhorting them to help his ideas survive.

I thought that Fidel Castro recently admitted that Communism as a way of governing was an abject failure. Why does he want to continue a proven policy of failure? This took place in September 2010; he said that the Cuban economic model is a failure.

Except for those Cubans who are happy making $25/month.

With no memory of the revolution’s heady first decades, younger Cubans complain bitterly about low state salaries of about $25 a month that leave them struggling to afford food and other staple goods.

As I said on an earlier thread, Cuba’s leaders need an enemy only 90 miles away. It’s the same need that North Korea has with the South and America. You’ve got to have enemies to keep the rank and file angry, ready to fight and easy to be worked up into a frenzy.
