Trump supporters in Maryland ‘suspicious’ of delegates as Cruz recruits double-agents

The threat of Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas deploying double-agent delegates to win a contested Republican convention this summer has Donald Trump supporters in Maryland suspiciously eyeing the state’s delegate list and finding potential traitors on the ballot.

A top suspect is Joeylynn Hough, a Trump delegate who is the wife of state Sen. Michael Hough.

Mr. Hough is a Cruz delegate and serves as chairman of the Cruz campaign in Maryland.

“I’m suspicious of her,” said conservative activist Sue Payne, a Trump supporter who lives in Washington’s Maryland suburbs. “I and others are very suspicious about who is representing Trump. He’s being ill-served by this group in Maryland.”

I hope someone does due diligence and publishes delegate names and loyalties before the vote

Just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean that they aren’t all out to get you...

Early voting has been going on since 4/14. You can look at delegate candidates here.

But how do I know which ones are snakes?

The only ones to know are those involved in party politics.

This is sickening news. I remember when Mr. Hough ran for his delegate position, it was “Chicago style” campaigning and back door antics. There will be no split choices in the Hough house. I hope there is another delegate to choose for Trump beside Mrs. Hough. BAD NEWS.

".... The only ones to know are those involved in party politics."

...... Ya ... but then we also have to worry about those deceptive "Wolves in Sheep's Clothing" ... Darn ... and also the "Sheep in Wolves Clothing." The trick is going to be figuring out who is who. This thing is just getting too complicated!

....As for me? ... I'm just gonna vote for Pedro.

As a KNOWLEDGEABLE Maryland resident, I can tell you that a candidate for delegate can ONLY have Trump’s name as a parenthetical next to his/her name on the ballot IF (and ONLY if) the Trump campaign has provided WRITTEN permission.

So, the only TRUMP delegates on the ballots are those the Trump campaign agreed to. So “double agents” are highly unlikely.

Yeah, I’ve asked before, how come they vote of Trump, but the cruz group comes in and the delegates change their votes? I’m interested. Are the delegates promosed something?

Two points:
Joey Lynn Hough ain’t switching to Cruz because her husband supports him. She’s been a Trump fan long before it was cool to be a Trump fan.

And as for the way the delegates are assigned in Maryland: each congressional district elects three delegates. Those delegates are pledged to the winner of the presidential vote in their district, regardless of who those delegates personally support. They have to vote for the winner on the first round of balloting. And if that candidate wins 35% of the vote in the first round of balloting, they are pledged to that candidate for the second ballot as well. If they don’t get 35% in the first round, the delegate is unbound in the second round. All delegates are unbound in the third and subsequent ballots.
11 more delegates are elected at the MDGOP convention. Those delegates are pledged to the statewide winner, regardless of who they personally support, in the first round. They are also bound in the second round if the candidate gets 35% in the first ballot. They are unbound for the third round.
So if you’re holding out for some sneaky switches in the second round of balloting, look somewhere other than Maryland. And look somewhere other than the Hough house.
