Trump & Cruz Backers Come Together to Warn Against a “Parachute” Candidate

In what I think is the first example of this, a group of conservative activists that includes both Trump and Cruz supporters has sent an open letter to this week’s RNC conclave in Florida agreeing with Paul Ryan’s assertion that the GOP should only nominate someone who has actually run in the primaries.

Though the letter doesn’t reference the #NeverCoup hashtag, its objections are essentially the same: that the participation of millions of voters in primaries and caucuses would be shunted aside by D.C. insiders, inevitably suppressing turnout, and that such a newcomer candidate would have to start from scratch three months before a national election against the Hillary Machine.

But also this, which should be obvious but which I hadn’t thought of: The media will pounce, ignoring the flawed “super delegate” Democrat process, declaring the illegitimacy of the hand-selected candidate, and exploit criticisms from any of the three active GOP contenders and their followers.

Kasich’s been bragging about being the nominee when the dust settles.

I agree wholeheartedly.

We already have false accusations of unfairness and stealing from day one of Trump’s campaign, with even threats of violence. I couldn’t imagine what would happen if the RINOs really did steal the nomination.

This is going to probably be a vicious convention to begin with, and circumventing the process by inserting a RINO would be a grave error.

It’s absurd to think that the numbers of any Republican won’t come down once they actually start getting attacked. No one’s even talking about Kasich let alone attacking him now.

Trump and Cruz need to coordinate with their delegates and forcefully insist that the convention rules prohibit a “white knight” or “parachute candidate”. I hope enough of their delegates are actually loyal and not just bound against their will.

The California rules allow the candidates to choose their own delegates after the primary

Trump will do very well in California. I hope he knows who his most loyal supporters in each district and statewide are that are willing to serve as delegates and sophisticated enough to understand the rules debates and their importance.
