BTW, appreciate that. Then, given your age, you must also know that was after Iran became the Islamic Republic of Iran (1979).
One suspects that Israel wants to keep track of Moscow’s intentions in Syria. All things considered, keeping El Assad in power is probably a net gain for Israeli security when compared with any other possible outcomes.

I’ve seen reports that Bibi went to Moscow at short notice because Russian forces in Syria had targeted Israeli aircraft in the area. I can imagine that the IAF would be very worried by such a development.
