I Would Die 4 U - Or Maybe Not

Things can always change in American politics, but maybe the biggest story in politics over the past two weeks has been how the "Stop Trump" forces are in retreat -- and part of it has been their own doing. Indeed, we can point to four reasons why #NeverTrump is struggling. One, the party is going out of its way to emphasize that it isn't changing the convention rules.

Case in point was yesterday at the Republican National Committee meeting in Florida, where the RNC's Rules Committee beat back any changes to how the GOP will conduct its convention in July. "The idea that you would replace the entire operating manual…could only be viewed by any one candidate as an attempt to favor another candidate, and that's extremely dangerous," warned Georgia Committeeman Randy Evans, per NBC's Alex Jaffe. If the party is already worried about perceptions given Trump's message against rigging the game, what will the political world look like three months from now when the stakes are even higher? The party already looks like it's been beaten in submission.

The best reason given in the article for the weakening of the Never Trump movement is that there is no alternative. The Never Trump people generally do not care who is the nominee as long as its not Trump. People won't support a question mark; they want to know where this movement leads.

The Never Trump movement is about hatred for Trump. It doesn't care what happens after Trump is denied the nomination; it will consider its mission to be accomplished. The average Republican voter, including Cruz and Kasich supporters, don't blindly hate Trump and they care who receives the nomination. Because the Never Trump movement is about nothing more than hatred of Trump, it is failing.

The “stop Trump” movement is composed of all the people on all sides of the political spectrum that the average Joe has learned to loathe with a passion.

They are failing because the number of people who despise them is overwhelming and grows with each immature and selfish outburst, with each dishonest attack, and with each refusal to recognize the legitimate grievances of the people to which Trump is giving voice.

The Never Trump movement is less about Trump and all about the people who have been causing the problems being desperate to hold onto their unearned privileges at any cost, even if they have to burn the whole place down.

You see what Trump did there?

Next time anyone jeers about Trump's "whining" remember this.
