U.S. agencies split over fingerprinting parents of child immigrants

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. immigration enforcement officers are proposing that fingerprints be taken from all people claiming custody of children who have entered the United States illegally without an adult relative, a measure that opponents said could keep thousands of families apart.

As a new wave of unaccompanied Central American children pours across the U.S.-Mexico border, the proposal underscores the sometimes conflicting goals of federal agencies in dealing with undocumented immigrants, a volatile issue on the presidential campaign trail.

Officials at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), which is ultimately responsible for finding housing for migrant children, told Reuters they have no plans to change fingerprinting policy. They said the proposal -- made by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials in an internal memo seen by Reuters -- would delay family reunions and infringe upon the parent-child relationship.

"One of our goals is to place children with an appropriate sponsor as promptly as we can safely do so. And so any delay for placing the child with their parent is time that we're keeping a parent and child separated," said Bobbie Gregg, deputy director for children's services at HHS's office of refugee resettlement.

ICE says that would allow fingerprints to be checked against an FBI database of criminals to verify the identities of people who say they are parents while ensuring that children do not go to parents who have criminal histories......................Makes sense to me, but liberals don't see it that way!

.S. authorities are required to find housing for illegal immigrant minors while they await a trial to determine whether they will be deported, a process that can take years.................Why in hell does it take years to deport illegals?

It would be insanity not to.

Without bothering to debate why children being smuggled across the border are even being allowed to stay in the U.S., only insane people would simply hand them over to unknown people who claim to be their parents.

The child slavery business would see a major uptick if this is allowed.

But we all know the real reason: the illegals and their enablers are now perfecting the invasion: the parents smuggle themselves in, get a safe house, then send for the kiddies. And if they can get the government to be their co-conspirators to bring their kids in and hand them over, all the better. But no fingerprints cuz Trump might get elected and then the party will be over.

Why aren’t they turned back at the border? This is ridiculous.

I say fingerprint and deport the adults, and move on to the next destination included with the young adult (err, I’m sorry, poor child) and repeat.

Liberals want us dead.

They want to stand on our bloody bodies and use our deaths to increase their control over every detail of our survivor’s lives.

America was a great nation that went to the moon, then liberals turned it into a Sally Struthers commercial.

Too stupid to realize that they are letting in their own soon to be cause of death.

the sometimes conflicting goals of federal agencies in dealing with undocumented immigrants

There is something seriously wrong with "our" government, and the conflicting goals of government agencies that deal with criminals are a major symptom of the problem. The solution may well be Donald Trump. If not, the solution is exceptionally ugly at best, not guaranteed to work, and has not been tried in 151 years.

Yup, they think it's always other people who pay the butcher's bill.

Even though the first people any newly minted communist regime lines up against bullet pockmarked walls are the very people who helped them overthrow the previous government.

Makes sense, these people weren't happy before. They won't be happy if the new regime doesn't meet every one of their dreams and expectations. They betrayed the last government. They'll betray the new one just as easily. AND THEY KNOW EXACTLY HOW TO OVERTHROW A GOVERNMENT.

The MSM and leftists never worry about tearing families apart when they are putting citizen parents in jail for not paying the taxes. Oh to be an illegal alien!

If Hillary wins the election I might just go across the border and sneak back in claiming to be a Cuban. The Obama crime syndicate is just giving away welfare benefits at the Mexican boarder to Cubans who take the land route. Disgusting.

People who come here LEGALLY are all forced to submit to fingerprinting as part of the green card process.

Once again, we punish those who actually OBEY the law.

You can vote in New Jersey without showing even one form of ID, but to purchase a handgun in New Jersey you must fill out multiple forms that ask invasive and personal questions, consent to a mental health records check and screening, produce a US passport, a New Jersey Drivers License, and proof of residency, be electronically fingerprinted and have you data entered into a database for criminals, be sworn in by a Deputy, pay a fee for the permit to purchase a handgun and another fee for a Firearms Identification Card, produce two witnesses who are not blood relatives to testify in your behalf, and wait one to three months. Meanwhile, Illegal Invaders get welfare, food stamps, Social Security, Drivers Licenses, housing, Medicaid, and can vote with impunity.

They should do DNA swabs of all indigents. To see if the kid is really theirs. and to check criminal records. They should be held until the results are in.

On the subject of DNA typing... I’m waiting for the James O’Keefe (or similarly-minded investigational journalist) crowd to get some Elizabeth Warren DNA from some covert methodology, and then submit it to the Ancestry.com folks who then derive the nationality heritage.

One of the Ancestry commercials details some percentage of “native american” for some dude. That would be a hilarious 0.0% Native American heritage for the fAir Fauxchohontas.

Someone with the the access get that used champaign glass from Ms. Warren and let’s get busy!
