I am an opponent of hate crimes. I believe that laws on the books (and there are a lot of them) cover these types of things and should be used when needed. There are already plenty of laws on the books to cover criminal activity. Hate crime legislation was never anything more than political theater with a racist intent.
It should go without saying that criminal acts are not based on feelings of love...

I fully agree.
I disagree with the fundamental premise of hate laws, because you have to judge on what someone was thinking rather than actual events and facts, and I see that as a slippery slope.
