The Faith of Christopher Hitchens
May. 5, 2016
Larry Alex Taunton is a columnist who started the Fixed Point Foundation, an apologetics organization that is probably best known for arranging high-profile debates between well-known atheists and Christians. For example, it arranged the famous God Delusion debate between Dr. Richard Dawkins and Dr. John Lennox. Other notable debates include The Is God Great debate between Christopher Hitchens and Dr. John Lennox and the God on Trial debate between Christopher Hitchens and Dinesh DSouza. Because his organization has arranged such debates (and because he often moderates them), Taunton has met and gotten to know the participants, including Christopher Hitchens, who many recognize as an outspoken atheist. Despite the fact that Hitchens and Taunton were polar opposites when it came to their core beliefs, they developed a deep friendship, which is the topic if this book.

An interesting book about an even more interesting friendship.

I didn’t agree with the Hitch on much, but he was a brilliant intellectual who didn’t mind giving it to the Left when they needed it.
Miss Hitchens’ take on things. Miss his wit.
He was smart, but I always greatly preferred his brother Peter. Still do.

Peter is brilliant, and more to my side of the ledger, but Christoper Hitchens was an artful polemicist and linguist who knew how to turn a phrase. His humor, unlike his brother, was the key difference.
He had no patience with idiots of any stripe and utterly despised the Clintons.
Hitchens won the affection of many sincerely religious figures - see for example, the following - long, but an interesting reflection on the innate morality of the man:

Same here.
:) God bless him.
I’ve watched those debates on YouTube.
The word for them is “stupid.”
Hitchens had about three things to say, none of which had anything to do with the existence of God. His opponents never touched on the real question, either.

I agree. Where’s GK Chesterton when you need him for a proper debate with an atheist?
So you’re saying the fear/hatred of Islam (Islamophobia) was created by fascists, and used by cowards to manipulate morons? I’m not seeing it.
Despite all his flaws, Hitchens had a yard of guts.
After the Iranians declared a fatwah on Salman Rushdie, the author of `The Satanic Verses’ (similar to the bull the Church issued against Elizabeth I), Hitchens took his friend Rushdie into his home, when the Church was almost saying Rushdie should be handed over to the savages.
Which Church?
Who?
Reading is fundamental. He said the WORD islamophobia, was created by fascists (it was) is used by cowards (it is, they use it to shut down open debate which they FEAR) to manipulate morons (people who accept the term when they have rational fear or dislike of islam, are morons.)
It’s pretty straightforward.
