The House Judiciary Committee will consider impeaching IRS Commissioner John Koskinen in upcoming hearings.
The committee will look at Koskinen's alleged misconduct relating to Congress's investigation into the IRS's targeting of political groups.
Despite repeated congressional efforts to get to the bottom of this matter, Obama Administration officials, including the IRS Commissioner, have consistently undermined the investigation," House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) said.
"Over the coming weeks, the House Judiciary Committee will closely examine Commissioner Koskinens misconduct and the implications of his actions.
At a Judiciary Committee hearing on May 24, witnesses will present the findings of the House Oversight Committee's investigation into Koskinen. Koskinen will also be invited to testify at that hearing.
Many Oversight Committee members have found that Koskinen failed to comply with a subpoena, made false statements under oath and failed to notify Congress that emails from former IRS official Lois Lerner were missing.
In June, the Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing in which outside experts will discuss the findings from the May hearing and comment on whether Congress should take any additional action.
Members of the conservative House Freedom Caucus have called for Koskinen's impeachment. The Freedom Caucus and its chairman, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), praised Goodlatte for scheduling the hearings on Koskinen.
"Commissioner Koskinen must be held accountable for years of stonewalling Congress oversight efforts, obfuscating justice, providing false testimony before Congress, and failing to hold agency officials liable for unlawfully targeting groups based on their beliefs," the Freedom Caucus said in a statement.
Jordan said that Koskinen "has most assuredly violated the public trust."
"Its time for him to go. A hearing is the right first step, but ultimately Congress should hold a vote on impeachment, he said.
The Tea Party Patriots, which says it was targeted by the IRS, said the hearings were the least that the House Judiciary Committee could do.
"Frankly, we are still waiting for someone to hold Lois Lerner accountable for her role in directing the targeting of Americans, but we also believe it's important to hold Commissioner Koskinen accountable," Tea Party Patriots co-founder and chief executive officer Jenny Beth Martin said in a statement.
"We hope the facts uncovered by the House Judiciary Committee in these hearings will lead to impeachment proceedings against John Koskinen for his misconduct as IRS Commissioner.

kabuki!
Too little too late, wrong target. Start by locking Lois Lerner up in prison for her IRS crimes, then you can waste time and resources on a show trial.
Given the stunning level of lawlessness and contempt for we the people, at SOME point we either force the issue or live with our chains.
This could turn out to be a feel good story. If he is removed.

I applaud them for at least looking into it.

Don’t be fooled; they’re not going to do a damn thing to him. This is just more misdirection from the GOPe that is doing what it always does: fabricate a false façade of action by putting up a smokescreen of meaningless rhetoric. They could have, and should have, impeached this guy long ago but they did absolutely nothing.
They are only doing this because Trump is taking over their party.
Meh. He looks more like a sickly apparatchik of the Politburo to me.
This shouldn’t take long; but lawless folks interfere.
Why do these ETTP (Enemy To The People) look like aliens?
Well that should take about 10 years.
Exactly...He’s a smug, egotistical little weasel that flaunts his position as do other bureaucrats but he’s the most accomplished at it that I’ve seen.
There is a process. By the time they get to a vote, these guys will be gone anyway.
“Too little too late”

Absolutely right. The IRS waged a viscous campaign to silence conservative groups. The House of Representatives is supposed to represent and protect the people who elected them against such abuses. Yet they have done nothing except talk.
Lerner was an easy slam dunk case but she is out there enjoying her lucrative and secure retirement.
Republican voters should impeach the GOPe House and Senate leadership in November.
Maybe Trump brashness will help these guys to grow some gonads.
Still I expect a big nothing burger.
But Brawndo’s got electrolytes.
Impeach his azz just the same...Stain his reputation for the balance of history.
Sebilius should be ‘brought to order’ before Kosiken. She told lie after lie in support of ObamaCare. Then they threw her under-da-bus!
Let Hillary defend the IRS. Everyone hates them.
In January he’ll be gone anyway....but it would be a nice addition to his resume.
Long past due.
There will be hearings!
There will be outrage!
There will be speeches!
There will be calls for justice!
There will be objections, outrage, and indignation from the “other side!”
And then the American people will go back to sleep and nothing will be done.
Status quo.
