We’re going to maintain this level of restriction to force the productive sector of the economy to increase output.

The beatings will continue until morale improves!

20 years ago Maria Esperanza predicted this would happen in her country. The destruction of society would start in Venezuela.

With social and liberal government that is where we are headed. Most of our middle class has already financially hit rock bottom and only question for collapse. The middle class is America.

Trump for President.

Rewarding those who act needy and punishing those who are productive isn’t working? Who would have guessed?

Socialism always fails, but socialists always say that to fix it, you need more socialism. (= insanity).

Force someone to increase output? Isn't that slavery? I guess it shouldn't surprise anyone that Socialism leads there.

Or they always blame the Capitalists for sabotaging it. If only all Capitalists were exterminated, the Socialism could thrive, don’cha know.

“Maduro and Chavez are able to claim the U.S. is trying to oust them because of the 1954 Guatemalan coup, the invasion of Panama, and whatever happened in Haiti in 2004 (thanks Roosevelt Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine and more involvement in foreign conflicts we shouldn’t be involved in).”

And how would any change in U.S. policy change the above? It would not. The above would always be cited. The left is adept at demonizing the U.S.A., no matter what. Nothing done in the U.S. will stop leftists from claiming the U.S. is about to invade, in order to prop up their regimes. The left is better at creating scapegoats and excuses for their failed policies than any other politicians on the planet.

Bill Kristol will probably approach him to run against Trump.

Venezuela would be doing great if only Chavez hadn’t died of cancer. They just have the wrong guy in charge. Too bad. Socialism almost worked out for them.

We’ve applied a very austere program,”

Never does one hear the word "austere" so much as to when they read a story about how socialism is failing in a particular country.

The best thing to do is stay as far away from this train wreck as possible. It’s just a shame that the US doesn’t currently have a free market advocating leader to point out, explicitly and loudly, what’s going on there and why it’s such a good lesson for everyone else.

And to add: a change of power there, even one that installs a free-market oriented leadership, is going to take enormously long to work. I can’t imagine that either internal entrepreneurs (assuming there are some left) or external companies and investors are going to be rushing back in once the doors open up again.

Forcing him out means, filling up a couple of suitcases with negotiable bonds and giving him access to a private jet that will carry him to the tropical retirement site of his choice.

Man can live and satisfy his wants only by ceaseless labor; by the ceaseless application of his faculties to natural resources. This process is the origin of property.

But it is also true that a man may live and satisfy his wants by seizing and consuming the products of the labor of others. This process is the origin of plunder.

It is impossible to introduce into society a greater change and a greater evil than this: the conversion of the law into an instrument of plunder.

Socialism Is Legal Plunder

Had long, lost relatives who lived in Venezuela and lost everything. Met up with them in the late 70’s after the initial takeover by the communists.
