San Jose to Vote on Banning Government Travel to North Carolina, Mississippi
NBC Bay Area ^ | May 17, 2016 | Lisa Fernandez

Following the lead of progressive cities such as San Francisco, the San Jose City Council on Tuesday is poised to vote on banning city workers from traveling to North Carolina and Mississippi.

The San Jose City Council resolution suggests that the city bans all non-essential city travel and business to those two states, and also to refrain from buying goods headquartered there until there's a change to "overturn existing discriminatory policies on sexual orientation.

Both southern states approved legislation preventing anti-discrimination protections for gay, lesbian and transgender people. North Carolina passed House Bill 2, or the "bathroom law," and Mississippi signed the "Protecting Freedom of Conscience from Government Discrimination Act."

Both "undermine the values of equality and diversity that we embrace in the city of San Jose," Mayor Sam Liccardo wrote to the council. Councilman Raul Peralaz said that it might not matter if just one city votes to ban travel, but as a "collective," states who have such laws will see that many entities are "standing up for human rights."

San Francisco already banned non-essential government travel to North Carolina in March, and then banned travel to Mississippi in early April.

Stars including Bruce Springsteen, the NBA, as well as companies like PayPal and jurisdictions including Atlanta, Boston, Washington, New York, Vermont, Connecticut and Minnesota have all enacted similar travel bans in the name of civil rights.

NBC Bay Area's Bob Redell contributed to this report.

And HERE is --or WAS, actually-- one of the biggest homeless encampments in the whole USA.

They got rid of it last year cuz in San Jose it's FORBIDDEN to be poor.

They're THAT tolerant.

Maybe NC should ask them about that, eh..?

Congratulations, North Carolina and Mississippi. You may be keeping the sleaze of San Jose out of your states.

"The San Jose City Council resolution suggests that the city bans all non-essential city travel and business to those two states"

Why are San Jose taxpayers paying for "non-essential city travel and business to those two states", to 47 other states, and within their own state of California?

What a bunch of poseurs. How much “non-essential city travel and business” does San Jose have with North Carolina and Mississippi? If any, why?

I hope that someone invents a great way to conserve water, or do something that solves huge problems for CA...

... and then sets up shop in NC. Lets watch.

Man. I might move to North Carolina. No commie fags around. I heard today some old goofy fart “violin” player cancelled his “concert” there. That’s good. I know Charlie Daniels would be willing to fill in for the old commie fart and show them “how it’s done”.

Amen- use Skype or GotoMeeting so we don’t have to see your stupid faces. What a blessing this could be if all the Lefties stayed in their cages and leaved civilized people alone.

This violates the Constitution as it restricts interstate commerce.

The question always asked: Have they banned all travel to Muslim countries? China?

I’m going to go out on a limb and say not only have they not done so, but some or most of the bigwigs in the city will be travelling to these places in the next few months, at taxpayer expense.

I’m sure that it is a real nail biter in North Carolina and Mississippi awaiting the results of San Jose’s actions.

The very first time I ever saw a woman with underarm hair was in San Jose. She was strapless.

Struck a nerve. This was long ago, but I still remember.
