I also strongly encourage all CCW permit holders to learn how to shoot without missing.
I've seen this advice so many times. I mean no offense, but I have to ask: Ever been in a firefight? (and, yes, I have, more than once, in two Army combat tours.) Being proficient enough to shoot without missing (a silhouette) is one thing. Even combat readiness training won't prepare you for the moment when a thug pulls a gun in your face. Yes, practice. That will improve your odds of not fumbling your weapon. But when the adrenalin kicks in and the target shoots back . . .
I'm thinking that the opening 20 minutes of Saving Private Ryan and the climactic gunfight in Unforgiven portrayed the psycho-slap-in-the-face of a real combat situation. About the only thing that prepares you for a shootout is a previous shootout. And then, not always.
