This is just like the NYT saying that if Mayor Giuliani shut down the squeegee guys who harassed drivers for money, (other) crime would skyrocket because the guys were all criminals who would have “no choice” but to commit worse crimes.
Of course no such thing happened because Giuliani cracked down on all crime.
In other words Mexican officials are peeing their pants worried that the revenue stream will be cut off. The Donald is coming, the Donald is coming! :-)

Hmm...I read the piece twice and it beats me what the nature of these “repercussions” turns out to be. Apparently if we build a wall to halt drug and people smuggling they’ll put a halt to...well, to drug and people smuggling. And if we stop illegals from transferring funds they’ll stop helping us by reporting illegal fund transfers. Somebody want to help me out here? Anybody? Bueller?
Don’t stop them. Tax them.
