See, this is the real motive behind absolute control of the public schools — complete control of thought, ideas, and beliefs.

According to the resolution passed May 17, the school district must remove any textbooks and other materials that suggest climate change is not occurring or that says human beings are not responsible for it.

We don't need no thought control...

Hey teacher, leave them kids alone...

All-in-all, we're just another brick in the wall

This is just for getting some attention. I seriously doubt that any such textbooks were in Portland schools. Any that might have slipped in would have been purged immediately upon discovery.

“A lot of the text materials are kind of thick with the language of doubt, and obviously the science says otherwise,” said Bill Bigelow, a former Portland public school teacher who worked to present the resolution.

And in what scientific discipline did this public school teacher earn his PhD?

If you get away from the hype and look at the data--there is nothing to suggest that there is anthropogenic global warming or climate change. The key word is anthropogenic--natural climate variation can and does happen all the time.

The majority of scientific papers that supposedly verify manmade climate change do nothing of the sort. What they do is describe an observation or a problem, present some data, explain the interpretation of the data, and throw the phrase "because of climate change" into the mix because the authors of the reports judge that linking their research to "climate change" makes it more likely to get funding in this highly competitive environment.

For example, a team of researchers could publish about the white-nose disease that is killing bats in the northeast. They could discuss various factors they think are linked to the spread of the disease--for instance, the low body temperature of bats in the winter. And then they'll throw "climate change" into the mix, even though there is no clear connection.

As for papers that definitively establish that there are variations in global climate directly due to carbon dioxide emissions from human industry--nope, they don't yet exist.

Now, there is a dam in China that has deformed the continental plate under China. But the effect of that on local or global climate, if any, has yet to be determined. That plate deformation is far more likely to have an impact on global climate, because it can change the rotational characteristics of the earth. But are those changes large enough to have a global effect? Who knows?

Scientific theory is always challengeable. Only organized religion or fascism demands unquestioning believers.

The Left really really really has a hard time being challenged on a point. Socialism always winds up there.

Hmm... Does the ban include peer reviewed scientific papers that call the current anthropogenic global warming theory into question? Those papers are out there. Are the warmists next going to have a book burning?

If they burn books, that will introduce more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

One super scary city though I have been there many times.
If a house is destroyed by fire, it must be replaced by an apartment building. Per agenda 21.

And yet ANOTHER “Portlandia” episode writes itself:

When “The Mayor” gets wind of this book banning, he realizes it’s not just heretical climate change books that must be banned, but he needs to ban many other classes of books, in particular any book that’s anti-pickle, anti-milk, anti-bicycle, anti-cute-dog-clothes, anti-soy-latte, anti-hipster, anti ... well you get the picture.
