Socialism is always, and only, about subverting the political system to divert rewards from the productive to the politically-well connected. Everything else ("fairness" ... "compassion" ... "lifting people out of poverty") is just lies and subterfuge to mask the real agenda.

The productive people respond to this by leaving if they can. If they stay, they are forced to produce under the gun (literally).

That lasts at most about one generation, because the next generation figures out that it's not worth it to bother becoming productive. You can survive better by just mooching and saying what it takes to please your political overlords.

The US is far down this road already, and every liberal Democrat election victory brings it closer.
