I was unaware that a White guy was briefly acting President of Zambia (he was VP and became acting P after the P died, until a special election was held). It’s rather remarkable he was chosen to be VP. He may go down as the final Caucasian head of State of an African Country.
According to online he sources, if he really wanted to run, he could have likely challenged it in court and had that law overridden, since it was put in place just to prevent a previous President (whose father was born in Malawi) from running for re-election.
In any case, it would be interesting to see if he would have won as incumbent running for President in a nation where less than 3% of the population is white. I'm guessing he could have probably pulled it off.
Scott's candidacy would put white conservatives in the same position that black conservatives were with Obama's candidacy in 2008: it would be intriguing to see someone with your ethnic background win the highest office in the land given the demographics are overwhelming against him. However, you'd also have to factor in that the candidate's ideological beliefs are totally opposite yours. (Guy Scott is a hardcore socialist and his party is uniformly left-wing and a member of Socialist International), so the pragmatic choice would be to root for a conservative black African to defeat him. That is, assuming his opponent was to his right.
