Hillary And The 'What If' Scenarios
Townhall.com ^ | June 4, 2016 | Cal Thomas

Some believe that soon after Tuesday's final presidential primaries the FBI will interview Hillary Clinton about her handling of emails while she was secretary of state. What comes next is the subject of much speculation.

One of the better speculators is Bradley Blakeman, who served as a member of President George W. Bush's White House staff.

We spoke in the "green room" at Fox News before our separate interviews. The following is culled from our conversation.

Blakeman says the FBI has deliberately waited to interview Hillary Clinton until after the primaries because the bureau did not want to interfere with the nominating process. He thinks the FBI is "likely" to recommend to the Department of Justice whether or not she should be indicted for violating what she says are agency rules and what others call the law between now and the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, which begins July 25.

If she is indicted before the convention, Blakeman says, it will give the party an opportunity to make changes in the rules that could result in an alternate nominee.

Here is the intriguing part about Blakeman's scenario: "If a grand jury is empaneled, or if she were to be indicted before the convention, the Democrats would have to let her go." If an indictment were to come after the convention, he says, it presents a different problem because each state needs to certify their ballots before November. If an indictment occurs after the states have certified their ballots, it would be nearly impossible to replace Hillary Clinton with another candidate.

Here's where things might get even more interesting. In states where ballots have been certified, the party would have to go to court to ask that Clinton's name be replaced. "They also have another problem," says Blakeman. "Once the convention ends, how do they reconvene to substitute Hillary? They have no rules for that."

What if a court denies a ballot change? Blakeman says the Supreme Court would almost certainly have to decide. That might look to many like a replay of the 2000 election in which the court certified Florida's vote count, awarding the state's electoral votes -- and the election -- to George W. Bush.

But what if the court -- with its one vacancy -- divides 4-4? In that case, the lower court ruling would prevail and if that court decided to strike Hillary Clinton's name from the ballot, a write-in would be the only option.

"Timing is not on Hillary's side," says Blakeman, who thinks "the silver lining for Hillary is that, if she were indicted, there is no doubt Obama would pardon her on January 19 as he walks out the door. She will never have to answer for her crimes."

What about any others who might be indicted, such as top aides Huma Abedin and Cheryl Mills? If they are indicted, but not pardoned by the president, will they go public? It's the stuff of big book contracts.

Should any of these scenarios prove true, as Blakeman thinks they might, President Obama, unlike President Ford and his pardon of Richard Nixon, will never have to face the voters and be held accountable for his action.

In this unpredictable election season, any one -- or all -- of these scenarios are possibilities, including the ultimate scenario: the delegates turning to Vice President Joe Biden to save them from Hillary and defeat in November.

What if “ifs” and “buts” were candy and nuts?

The establishment isn’t going to do a damn thing but piss and moan about this and then return to business as usual.

Hillary will NEVER be indicted.

She’ll get away with the e-mail gate caper as she has gotten away with everything else in her life.

And now she’s the nominee of a major party.

Unfortunately the least interesting thing will happen: She will not be indicted. She will be the nominee. She may very well win the election. She will shred all evidence against her.

What if Obama pardons her tomorrow?

Ford pardoned Nixon before the legal process really kicked in.

I am afraid you are correct. They are above the law in their eyes and are all members of crime inc.

PARDONMAGEDDON.

EVERYBODY is getting a pardon, whether they’ve been indicted or not.

You Literally Read my mind! That was exactly what I thought when I read the headline.

If “ifs” and “buts” were candy and nuts, we'd all have a Merry Christmas!

I can only speculate on what goes on behind the scenes, but I don’t have faith in Comey on this matter. Martha Stewart and Scooter Libby were indicted in a fraction of this time.

Remember when Eagleton was replaced as the VP nominee by Sargent Shriver, after the convention in 1972?

Eagleton had been nominated by the full.convention, but it was a committee of Democrat leaders who replaced Eagleton on the ticket.

So its not quite true to say they have no procedure or party rules to replace a nominee after the convention.

Trump says Hillary is going to jail. A President Trump has no choice but to thoroughly purge the Executive Branch of any Obama/Hillary people. As has been pointed out, once begun, the pardons have to flow like water. Anyone left out will know immediately they have been chosen to take the fall. Not one of those lower level libtard functionaries will jump on his sword for Zero or Hillary. So Zero has a choice. He can let Hillary swing or go down in history as the most corrupt administration ever, to include Grant. He can not just pardon Hillary or even a few. Blanket amnesty for Lois Lerner and everyone else or the walls they have built come tumbling down. Not a pretty position Zero has put himself in. I can not think of anyone who deserves his troubles more.

I’m not convinced that the Democrats really want the presidency this time.

There are a ton of bills that are coming due.

You have to look at the presidency like the Democrats do.

We look at the presidency as a managerial position. The President runs the Executive Branch.

The Democrats look at the presidency as a financial position. The President’s job is to take money from the public treasuries and give that money to Democrats.

This works fine if they allow a Republican to win the presidency every so often so that the public treasuries can be replenished.

For whatever reason, President Bush II didn’t replenish the public treasuries.

There’s a huge bill coming due and the Democrats might be trying to run from it.

Unfortunately, I think Obama telegraphed the outcome of the investigation yesterday: He “leaked” his intention to endorse Hillary, once she clinches the nomination.

I don’t think he would risk doing so, if he through there was any possibility of an indictment.

I suspect Zero is just dithering. He must choose between two alternatives which are both distasteful to him and so he just postpones hoping time will give him a third, more palatable option. I doubt it will. This election season has been a roller coaster and it is only going to get worse in the next few months. The corruption of the Obama/Clinton regime is GOING to be an issue. The pardons he will have to issue to cover his own butt are going to get more difficult to produce as time goes by not less. For example, the great “counterpuncher” Trump has yet to chide the MSM for making a mountain out of a Trump U molehill while not one MSM story has surfaced about $55 million in money laundering Hillary and Bill did at Laureate. Zero’s administration has to date gotten away with a truly mind numbing level of corruption. All just low hanging fruit just waiting to be whacked like piñata. I believe Trump will have a field day with Hillary or anyone else the libtards try to sub in.

Does it matter whether Trump is “really one of us”? I don’t think so. His path is laid out. He wants to win. Not a bad thing. His path to victory of necessity leads squarely across the backs of Hillary and Zero. He seems unusually skilled at “driving the spike and laying the roadbed” for an unwilling MSM to grudgingly furnish the rails that will run them down.

With Trump we have a chance. With ANY libtard we don’t.

“Presumed” nominee. The analysis was on target at least for the email portion of the FBI investigation. The racketeering investigation is still very lethal based on what Ortel has started to release.

There would be a stigma attached to that which can’t be ignored. My guess is more of her potential voters would stay home.

I do not understand why all the focus is on the emails, and none on the blatant use of the human fund as a foreign favor granting mechanism

Justice doesn’t mean the same thing to you freepers as it does to the elites.

I think Obama will have to use secret pardons to protect the elites from rubes who can’t understand just us.
