The debate over the future of Detroit’s public schools took a nasty turn over the weekend when the editorial page editor of the Detroit Free Press called for Republican state legislators to be murdered for disagreeing with him.
“We really ought to round up the lawmakers who took money to protect and perpetuate the failing charter-school experiment in Detroit, sew them into burlap sacks with rabid animals, and toss them into the Straits of Mackinac,” wrote Stephen Henderson.
The crime the lawmakers were guilty of? Supporting expanded choice for Detroit’s failing school system.
“A sack. An animal. A lake. No lover of actual democracy could weep at that outcome,” wrote the winner of the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for commentary.

I’m sure I don’t have to look to know the ethnicity of a cretin like this.

There must have been a gun nearby. People don’t talk about killing, guns talk about killing.
I’m starting to think this is part of the disconnect between gun grabbers and 2nd amendment advocates. Gun grabbers actually think about killing others and aren’t sure they have the self control to not do it if a gun’s nearby - and it would be the gun’s fault. They think we’re nuts because they can’t understand being around a gun and maintaining self control if they get angry. We think they’re nuts because we can’t imagine killing someone over a disagreement.
It’s entirely possible they have a point about guns and the government should take guns away from them (and only them)
No better example of why Detroit has descended into Hell.

From a ‘liberal’ - more tolerance.
If this fool took the time to do some research, he’d learn that the school vouchers and charter schools that were implemented in Louisiana under former Governor Bobby Jindal have been not only successful, but popular with parents. Including and especially conscientious black parents wanting to get their kids out of failing, union-controlled public schools.
Henderson's columns strike a note of decided balance - taking the best of left and right, and combining them to reach pragmatic, rational solutions. Equanimity is his trademark. That does not equate, however, with timidity. Henderson's opinions come down hard on excessive partisans, those who betray the public trust and the foolishness inside and outside of Detroit that brought the city to its financial and managerial knees.
If murder has become “pragmatic and rational”, then Katy bar the door!
