He is permitting the liberal republican senators up for vote this year an opportunity to go on the record.
It is extremely dangerous given the republicans have only a 4 senator lead.
I imagine that Kirk, Ayotte, Johnson, Portman, and Toomey are suspect. Portman would cut his throat to vote for gun control in Ohio.
Also, I’m assuming this has not yet gone to the House but has originated in the Senate.
Except that Paul Ryan is a democrat and will use the democrats to get a majority in the House, I would normally say that such a bill would be DOA in the House.
Calling his office will do no good whatsoever unless you live in Kentucky and are registered to vote. Call your own state senators and let them know how you will vote if they vote with B!tch McConnell.
The club probably had security. There was an off duty cop there who returned fire and induced Mateen to retreat to the bathroom which probably limited the carnage. News reports mention the cop and talk about a doorman. My surmise is that the cop was the doorman. Clubs like that like to hire off duty cops for bouncers and security.

If this gun control stuff goes through this time the lines have been drawn. I don’t see anything good on the horizon if the Republican’s act like we know they will, that is the backstabbing socialists and lying dogs we know they are.
What they mean is deny White Christians guns, while deliberately leaving them in the hands of violent criminals and terrorists.
Most importantly, IMHO, is that Islamic leaders come out and say, unequivocally: 1. ISIS, the clerics who back them, and all those who kill in the name of Islam are not doing God's work, and will not go to paradise because of their actions. They are not Muslims, do not represent Islam, and are definitely not martyrs. 2. Sharia was written during a different time in a different culture. It is not the definitive law of Allah, and does not and should not supplant the laws of modern society. Islamic clerics who disagree and push for Sharia literalism are wrong and not acting in accordance to God's will.
I don't expect this to happen, but it's the ideology that is being used as justification, and this is what has to be definitively discredited. If the clerics say that can't do this, because Sharia ‘is’ the definitive law of God, then we need to have the open discussion about how this belief system is compatible with Western society.

Also note, that in California there are a dozen strict gun bills being rushed thru the legislature.
Registering ammo purchases is one of them.
Expect that initiative to sweep westward thru the country to DC.

There is a town in Alberta, Canada with the evocative name of Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump. It takes its name from a geologic feature that North American Indians used to hunt bison. The Obama administration has been using buffalo jump hunting on the Congress and the American people.
