Yes, we've all seen this mind-set. Further, the majority of those who speak this way have university degrees, and many have graduate degrees. To underestimate the insidious and far-reaching effects of the group-think that is promulgated by today's universities is dangerous. It is a dominant contributor to where the country is right now.
Universities have long since ceased to be places of free and open thought, but they instill the belief that by virtue of a university education you are more ‘measured’ and tolerant, and with a much more valid position than the ‘bumpkins’ who don't live their lives on the basis of what they were spoon fed. The ‘bumpkins’ can also be wrong, but wrong or right is not decided by the rank listing of where one received their degree.
Actually, the biggest form of bigotry we have in modern society is the bigotry that values pedigree over independent thought, and that rejects the credibility of individuals in the absence of such a pedigree.
