I have used those things for 40 years and have become quite proficient. They are excellent for cardio, dexterity, coordination (you hit yourself in the balls exactly once), strength and speed. The only time I ever used them for self defense, just the threat and a little exhibition of skill sent my would be assailants fleeing. The only person I ever hit with them was me.
