Believe it or not, since 1957. The Treaty of Rome already had the phrase “ever closer union” in its preamble, and already forced a common agricultural policy on its member states.

The best thing the Brits can do for themselves is laugh in their faces and let them stamp their feet wee socialists feet in frustration.
