Imagine if someone during World War II in Germany had figured out how to decipher Enigma traffic and had released all the information to the German people.

Given that the Allies were already deciphering these messages, would the German government be better off knowing that their messages could be decrypted or not knowing?

My point is that when somebody tells you that your secrets are not safe you are better off knowing.
