Some cities are starting to realize that. The new mayor of Rome passed on competing for the Olympics. Smart move!

Absolutely! Maybe this will bring an end to this financial joke! Just like voting for politicians, the moron citizens wlll vote to encumber their cities with this gigantic financial turdk because of “their love for sports!” And its the same for “taxpayer funded sports stadiums!” I just love how San Francisco, years ago funded the building of Candlestick Park. But is was a crappy place, weatherwise, and Giants and the 49ers pissed and moaned for years about how it “just wasn’t adequate.” So now, the Giants have their new “downtown ballpark,” also paid for largely by the taxpayere, and the 49ers went down to Santa Clara County and BSed the voters there in to paying for their new football stadium ( which took away San Jose State’s Aviation Program by taking the airport land on which it was built). So now, we will have to wait to see how in the future these facilities are also “inadequate” and need to be replaced, again at taxpayer expense.
