Trump: Who's paying for Obama's political trips?
Politico ^ | 7/5/2016 | Nick Gass

Donald Trump on Tuesday ratcheted up his criticism of President Barack Obama's travel aboard Air Force One to help Hillary Clinton, ripping into the president for his campaign trip to North Carolina at taxpayers' expense.

"Taxpayers are paying a fortune for the use of Air Force One on the campaign trail by President Obama and Crooked Hillary. A total disgrace!" Trump tweeted Tuesday, hours before Clinton and Obama are scheduled to fly from Joint Base Andrews to Charlotte, North Carolina, for their first joint appearance.

is scheduled to address the National Education Association's representative assembly Tuesday morning in Washington before the afternoon event.

Trump first raised the question Monday evening, tweeting, "Why is President Obama allowed to use Air Force One on the campaign trail with Crooked Hillary? She is flying with him tomorrow. Who pays?"

As conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch has uncovered, a typical trip aboard Air Force One costs upwards of $200,000 per hour.

But under guidelines first adopted by the Reagan administration in 1982, and formalized by Congress in 2009, Clinton's campaign — or the Democratic National Committee — would be obligated to reimburse taxpayers for at least some portion of Obama's North Carolina trip, under a formula at the discretion of the White House.

The costs for some staff involved in such political trips, such as Secret Service agents who accompany the president wherever he goes, are always paid by the government.

What's the flight time from DC to Leavenworth?

I'll bet crowdsourcing would cover it in a New York minute.

the campaign reimburses the white house. but I believe they are only charged for comparable tickets on a commercial flight, not the full cost of transportation and security.

It doesn’t matter if a campaign pays for Air Force One...it is used for Government Business...on our tax dollars...

The message is to know that the head of our Government is supporting his favorite candidate to take his place, which is not right and not fair...

It’s one thing to ‘endorse’ someone, but it’s another thing to fly them in OUR plane, on OUR dollar and Trump has EVERY right to bring this out...

How many other presidents did you see do this? I haven’t...and Clinton has enough money to rent a plane for herself and Barky doesn’t need to be there...he can put out a ‘press release’ or he could have a ‘moment in the ‘Rose’ garden’....

This is wasteful, and is sending the wrong message!!!

Aren't all of Ears's trips political?

The man doesn't get up in the morning and take a wee without seeing how that might benefit him politiclly.

That "official" event is how they justify having the taxpayers foot the bill for the trip. The party will pay for any additional expenses related to his detour to the political event, but that is only a fraction of the overall cost.

A common sense rule, extremely unlikely to garner support in the Capitol pigsty, would be that no government resources, vehicles, aircraft or personnel may be used for any trip which includes political events of any kind. Normal Americans can recognize the simple, yet clear, moral imperative that their money should not be used for political fundraising or campaigning without their consent, such as the check-off box on the IRS-1040 (is it still there?). Politicking on the taxpayer dime also creates the outrageous advantage that goes with incumbency, which is why we have these jerks camped out in DC for 30, 40 years and more, enriching themselves, passing the pork around and growing every day less and less representative of the people who sent them there.

As I said, common sense will find no takers in the pigsty.

........"all of Ears's trips are political.....The man doesn't take a wee without figuring how it might benefit him politically"...

AND whether it will facilitate his get-rich-quick plans.

Maybe he should consult Bill Clinton about the "wee-wee trick?

The entire cost should be c paid and not just the cost of 2 plane tickets.

The President is the de facto head of a political party. To say they can't attend or participate in political events isn't realistic.

Wouldn't this be a conflict of interest for the President to be campaigning for Hillary while she is under investigation?

What message does this send to the investigators?

Are we running a campaign or are we running a country?

Who said anything about prohibiting the president from engaging in political events? Just not on our dime.

The great thing about Trump is he is saying what we have been whipped into submission to accept. Democrats AND Republicans use our money to campaign. From travel, to franking. That’s why incumbents have the advantage. It MUST STOP.

The ultimate decider on whether or not Hillary gets indicted is flying her on AF1 to campaign events.

You didn't say anything about who bears the expense.

Is it OK so long as someone reimburses the government for its expenses?

:: Are we running a campaign or are we running a country? ::

The elites are running the $20-Trilion treasury as a campaign fund. THAT is the “prize” for anyone who successfully wins in government.
