I am a civil engineer and know this very well. But it is not the disaster he makes it out to be. ZH is a home for fearmongers.

Stuff happens.

The biggest waste is the stupid windmills. Not only that, they are a blight on the land.

"I am a civil engineer and know this very well. But it is not the disaster he makes it out to be."

What kind of disaster is it then? Local public officials continue to invent more regulations and fees while directing more revenues to their salaries. Needed infrastructure repairs and improvements are increasingly neglected, while regulatory officials spend more time on implementing and enforcing the various putsches of Agenda 21 against private property development. In other words, the heinies, bringing Europe with them, sit on their heinies and make nothing much more than trouble.

"...nearly 40 million Americans employed in some way by government."

...and pensioners from the same.

"The biggest waste is the stupid windmills. Not only that, they are a blight on the land."

That's an interesting word choice (blight: definition).
