Sorry, Newt is spot on! Our white daughter is dating a young man whose parents are from Nicaragua. He is obviously mixed race, and has enough non-white features to be “racially profiled.” He is college-educated and has a senior technical position with a well-known Silicon Valley company. Our daughter tells us that recently while shopping they, with their prior purchases wen into another store. He asked her to carry their all purchases, because he was concerned that he might be subjected to a search of their bags owing to his physical appearance. That is what people of color have to deal with every day, and I realize that they have to “own” what others of their race have done to foster the fear and resentment, but none of it is right. I don't condone what was done in Dallas last night, but I have real reservations about what happened in Minneapolis and Baton Rouge too. We must support our police, but they too have an obligation to act responsibly, and many of them don't. I have had first-hand experience with their abusive behavior and I am old and white. The environment today cannot be justification for being “trigger happy!” They have a right to go home at night, but that does not give them license to shoot people indiscriminately.

And who the hell's fault is that when the store owners are victimized by certain types

It is called self preservation

What happened in MN and Baton Rouge are being singled out plain and simple. The cop may or may not have been right or wrong in each case, or may have overreacted to the situations, but they did it based purely on experience. Not bias or race issues. We don’t know the facts to say what yet, but both are now established in some circles as race-based acts, no matter what the situations turn out to be. White people get shot and killed by police too. Most likely in the exact situations these two men faced. We as a society are now poisoned by magnified anecdotal situations and pure lies such as Michael Brown and Baltimore. Has there ever been a racist act by a cop, most likely. It’s in minute numbers. Do cops in this country face thousands of life and death situations daily resulting in a very occasional situation like this. Yes. With many if not most with african-american individuals. That’s the reality. There are two parties to this situation, and it ain’t the cops at the root of the problem.

Mixed here myself, but this example doesn’t really say anything to me other than that he’s paranoid. He doesn’t know if he would be subjected to a search or not, he was just “concerned that he might be”.

I agree with you, and it is a sensitive subject. I work with 2 black guys. One is my boss and the other thinks he is.

We talk about these things sometimes, and although we agree on a lot of topics, they definitely have a different perspective on discrimination. They are both my age (50ish), and born at the dawn of "the great society", so they have been "fully integrated", if not actioned very affirmatively their whole lives.

If I didn't know and love them, I could develop an attitude over their position on things like this, but they tell me stories daily of being discriminated against, and I've witnessed some of it.
I just love them through all of these things, and represent Christ. All three of us have the same blood type, so I remind them that if I get cut and start bleeding out, their blood would save me. In other words, we are the same.

I call BS on this. Blacks aren’t searched unless they are observed doing something illegal. The fact of the matter is people are terrified to confront them for of violence or legal persecution.
