Wade Goodwyn was commenting about the attack on Dallas police yesterday, and suggested that he thought police were supposed to arrest/detain people not blow them up. i am paraphrasing, as i didn't realize that in the interview i was hearing broadcast on WAMU this morning that the NPR reporter was going to make such a remark. not sure if what i heard was captured in any of the recordings at the link provided.

How long had it been since johnson fired his last shot before the police killed him?
The Dallas shooter had told the Dallas police that he and his team had placed many IEDs in the area.
To the best of the Dallas Police knowledge the time, the shooter , who had already shot and killed a record number of cops, had at his disposal a large number of IEDs for remote detonation with his cell phone.
They had to neutralize the threat to the public ASAP.
The used a remote control robot designed to detonate luggage bombs, suicide belts and back pack bombs left by terrorists.
The police improvised their own explosive device and strapped it to the robot in such a way that they could maneuver it near the shooter and detonate the IED.
The Dallas police did good.
If you don’t want to be blown up, don’t tell police (or anyone) that you have bombs planted near people that you’re going to make blow up.
They deprived the Left of the next Mumia Abu Jamal. Pity. /sarc
The only valid objection to not blowing the perp up is that he is no longer available for interrogation. Which with the BO JustUs department, would not have been thorough enough.
I am grateful for not having to listen to the perp spew for the next generation while he was tried.
Drones surely are not cheap, but bound to be cheaper than feeding and watering the perp for the next generation.
I’m sure this “reporter” thinks the following should be done by policemen when confronted with a killer like X Johnson:
1. Lay down their own weapons
2. Walk slowly toward the person, singularly, not in a group.
3. Keep repeating step two as the perp methodically kills the unarmed policemen, until the perp runs out of ammunition.
4. After mulitple police are killed and the perp is out of ammunition, have the remaining, if any, unarmed policemen walk up to him and arrest him.
