Australian Arabic Council founder Joseph Wakim has been jailed for less than two years for a brazen sex attack on a teenage boy on Christmas Day.
The former Victorian multicultural affairs commissioner was told he had already suffered from the public humiliation after being ordered to hand back his Order of Australia medal and resign from his advisory position with the NSW police.
The 53-year-old pleaded guilty to the rape of a 13-year-old boy on Christmas Day in 2015 after showering him with gifts and holidays.

I am a Member of the Order of Australia and this is the first time I’ve even heard of this guy and what he did. If I didn’t know, I can just about guarantee that very few other people did - and the forced return of such a thing should have got strong media attention especially for such a heinous crime. If we haven’t heard about this until now, it’s because the media has been reporting it much less aggressively than they normally do - and there are only ‘politically correct’ reasons I can see for downplaying it.
It’s Christmas. He’s a Muslim. He’s a guest in their house. He rapes their teenage son. While they’re home.
Govt response? Take back his gong.
A bit too British in the sentencing phase.
