Pence is the safe choice, he is acceptable to the Republican establishment and movement conservatives equally. He doesn’t have the personal baggage of a Newt Gingrich or Chris Christie. This should put to rest some of the worries about Trump being unpresidential and making some kooky, off the wall pick like his daughter or a reality TV star or something. On the other hand Pence is rather bland and milquetoast, I doubt he is going to set the campaign on fire, on the other hand he shouldn’t do any damage either...like I said “safe choice”.
He’s just the right kind of bland. It’s a very sensible pick. Trump has enough charisma already.
So was Calvin Coolidge...and look how he turned out.

Interesting that Condi Rice was approached. I agree, Pence is a safe choice. The other side would have had a field day with Newt. Pence is cool. His wife is cool. From a cool state. He’s cool cool cool.
Pence also has midwestern roots and no current Congress beltway stink on him. I’m not a Pence fan but can see why he would be a good pick for Trump.
I disagree. He is dignified. And the Lord knows, Trump needs all the help he can get in the “dignified” category.
