Police officers pay for motel room, The rest

More than $150,000 dollars have been raised for a Georgia 19-year-old who was found sleeping in a tent outside the gates of his college last weekend.

Fred Barley, who is homeless, was discovered by two police officers responding to a trespassing call near a parking lot at Gordon State College in Barnesville. He told the officers he had ridden his little brother's bicycle six hours to register for classes for his second semester of college.

In addition to the bike, Barley had two duffel bags containing all his wordly possessions and two gallons of water. All he had to eat, according to a report by WSB, was a box of cereal.

"After meeting Fred, I could tell he was a good kid,” Gordon State College Police Officer Dicky Carreker told the Barnesville Herald-Gazette. “He was a young kid who had been dealt a bad hand and was trying to make the best out of it. All he wanted was a job."

Carreker and Barnesville Police Officer Maria Gebelein told Barley he couldn't stay in the tent, but they knew someplace he could stay. The officers brought Barley to a nearby motel and paid for two nights accomodation.

"The stuff that’s happening with police officers, I am black and he didn’t care what color I was," Barley told WSB. "He just helped me, and that meant a lot."

Paging “Black Lives Matter” who will, of course, ignore the H out of this as it does not fit their meme, aka prejudice!

That money needs to be placed in a trust for him before it disappears.

Continuing ...

Remember it was Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain) who once said that a lie goes ‘round the world while truth is lacing its shoes? Our media falsifies our lives by publishing bad news over good news! It is likely unintentional on their part, bad news sells more views than good news, however it is our duty as intelligent people to know that there is more good news that is unpublished.

God has granted us the power of discernment, the ability to know when we are being led astray. We need to live that life that adheres to the Golden Rule. But when the enemy transgresses, give it to him REDOUBLED!

Trust, but verify, and as another poster said, put most the money into a trust. Having heavy cash on hand will put this kid at danger from those who already know him, grave danger.

“Mainly from the college if it’s chock full of talentless liberals.”

It isn’t. It is actually a breath of fresh air as far as US Colleges go these days.

It also has one of the best and most competitive nursing programs in the state, and probably the region.

I never understood the “let’s raise thousands for one kid.”

I appreciate the charitable nature of Americans. I don’t understand why we overdo everything.

What ever happened to the YMCA’s where a single man could stay real cheap?

Kid had/has the guts to try and make his dream work.

There are no cheap safe living places for a single man or woman any more, they live at home with parents if they are lucky to have them.

Room mates are unpredictable in staying and compatibility.
