Release of a few (and just a few) Acme plutonium grade emails about an hour before H?’s acceptance speech would dress the stage for great political theater.

An hour? That’s way too much time.
Give ‘em 15 minutes AT MOST, just so the media heads freak out with no time to spin.

At this point they don't even have to be real emails. Both Hillary and the DNC have lost public trust on email. They will not be able to quickly say the emails are bogus and be believed. They also won't be able to quickly defend themselves because even they may not know if the emails are fake and if more emails may follow to show the first response was a lie.
On the other hand, the Clinton thing to do would be to have someone "not traceable to Hillary" start releasing fake emails. Build up public doubt about the authenticity of any leaked/hacked email since there are likely to be more real ones coming.
