could be the visit. Then I found this article in this morning’s NYT and wonder if it could maybe be a show of displeasure over Germany and America not jumping-to, on closing Gulen schools to appease Ergo? (Germany has troops at the base, yes?).

Well, it’s all related.
The Gen has come to negotiate and this is Erd’s way to impress upon the General that Erd has the advantage.

Erd’s over-reaching goal is to profitably leave NATO. I don’t see him throwing that away. Bribes will be discussed more than Guhlen IMO.

There are troops from a few NATO countries on the air base. Strange that he would blockade exits with commercial trucks. There are no tanks on the base as far as I know. Unless they anticipate a heavy mechanized air lift into the base ?

Good points, but all that can be done with a simple phone call.

I would hope all of the warheads are rigged for destruction at the point the Turks breech the perimeter of secure NATO area. Of course, with Obama, he may have issued stand down orders and will let Erdogan overrun the base and take whatever he wants.

I doubt either one trusts the other to not record the things they’ll say to each other. Big money will change hands and big double-crosses will be agreed on. This is high diplomacy.

BTW meant no offense with the ‘exciting’ characterization- was just contrasting it with my own very mundane view.

No worries. Yeah. High stakes nuclear poker. Best done in person.

It’s race between who’s more imcompitent Obama or the Turks. That’s a hard one to call.

Those weapons need to be dialed to max and set up so they can all be touched off at the same time if the Turks make a move. It would make the “Mother of All Craters” in southern Turkey

Hey blupun, if u don’t mind my theory, and from what I’ve just read, what if the large commercial trucks u said were blocking the entrance/exits, could possibly be a ploy for turkey using the trucks to load and take the nukes? The number of trucks to nuclear bombs is comparable. What do u think?

Probably just a test run. To see how fast they can assemble 7,000 police and 50 transport vehicles. They can grab them and remove them before our calvary can arrive.
