It was a dumb unforced error. A Gold Star mom is a lot more sympathetic than Hillary Rotten Criminal. The TV ads just write themselves. And now Trump is going to get fragged again as “racist” by the GOPe.
If people don’t know that muslim isn’t a race and that Pakistani isn’t a race, then there really is no hope for America anyway.

I said this in the other thread, but it wasn’t a wise decision to wade into this. For our side who likes him hitting back, we have to realize that while this may appeal to some in the base, this is not going to go over well with the undecided voters and fence sitters. He shouldn’t have said anything about the mother as, according to her, she says she can’t speak about her son without crying. Also, politically speaking, asking for the mother to speak isn’t good for Trump. I can’t see anyone who is undecided saying that will make them vote for him.
I did say this, though, I understand that Trump wants to reply to what this man said about him. I said in the other thread, and I’ll post it here, what I would have said if I were advising Trump (obviously I’m not):
I appreciate the sacrifice that this young man made for our country. We are grateful for his service; he was a hero. I am sorry for their loss. I would like to make clear that the ban on immigration is related to countries that have a high incidence of terrorism. The United Arab Emirates is not one of those countries, and so the ban would not have affected Khan. The wall criticized is to stop illegal immigration on the Mexican border, not to keep legal immigrants like the Khan family out.
Right now, there is a problem with radical Islamic terrorism which is what Khan fought against and which is what has led to an increasing number of terrorist attacks. Hillary Clinton has not helped matters with her foreign policy. After she voted for the war to go into Iraq, she also supported pulling the troops out too soon - leading to the rise of ISIS. ISIS further spread through inept policies in Syria and Libya. The ban on immigration from countries with a high instance of terrorism is made to keep the same people that Kahn was fighting off of our shores - which is why he was fighting in the first place. It is important to ensure that the soldiers who died fighting radical Islamic terrorism, so that it did not spread and come to our shores, didn’t die in vain. Of course there are good Muslims like the Khan family, and we have to ensure with the ban from terrorist countries and proper vetting that the people who enter this country love America like the Kahn family and aren’t radical Islamic terrorists. That will make all families, including the Kahn family, safer.
That would have been what I would have said. As far as the ABC interview, the media is lying. They are acting like Trump came out and boasted to the father that he created jobs. That’s a lie. George S. asked him what he has sacrificed. Trump answered about creating jobs, and there is nothing wrong with that. America needs people to do it. What has Hillary sacrificed? She didn’t lose a child in that way either. Also, Trump said he “probably looked like a nice guy to me.” Trump explained his position as to why he wants to do a ban on immigration from terrorist countries.
For the record, Trump put out a statement to all this media hoopla which is actually kind of similar to what I said I’d say.
