It appears to have dropped down and is not propelling forward ... it looks like the instant before igniting.

OK. But to me it looks like the missile is forward of the mount with no exhaust? Do they put the brakes on before the propellant lights off? lol

The Aussie’s missile must have had a longer delay on the fuse! lol

Not real?
The missile looks out of alignment with, and slightly higher than, the pylon it supposedly launched from.
Cool pic, though.

Do they put the brakes on before the propellant lights off? lolThat's what I initially thought, but upon further review, it appears that it is an optical illusion due to the nature of the photo itself (somewhat of a wide-angle shot). Wide-angle shots will distort proportion and distance.

What happened to the outer pylon on the pilot’s right?

The ignition timing may be different in the two pictures.
They are not the same type of missile - check out the shape of the rear fins.

F-18 firing missle Same one as your picture I think, full video, start watching a 0:25 seconds.
Check that out, its an F-18, and the missle fires almost as soon as it drops from the pylon.

You’ve apparently never been near a missile launching.

88 Harm apparently drops quite a bit before igniting the propellant. Aim-7 cooks off right when it drops.

I’ve been “near” M80 launches in my yute. Light. throw and run away promotes an longer, undamaged life.
