I do not know what brought TWA 800 down. I do know the zoom climb the CIA described is totally aeronautical fiction. That was a lie. My question is why did they lie.

Why was the CIA involved at all?
Was it because they were the only agency equipped to lie publicly, on a large scale? (for national security purposes and the defeat of the terrorists, of course)

I flew the B-747 and I can assure everybody that it does not “Zoom.” It is not a highly maneuverable airplane. If the theory of the “zoom climb” can be true, it must assume that the plane is capable of a rapid change of attitude and altitude that is clearly visible to both witnesses, radar return and the flight data recorder. Why did they lie?
Could it be pre election timing? In that case, remember who was running for his second term at the time and who is his wife?
