Framed by a tiny cutout in the fortified bunker, this particular piece of no-man's land is tinted a blood-reddish orange by the setting summer sun.

It's hot as hell, and it's about to get hotter. When the sun goes down, the guns start blazing. And all that separates the men at their triggers is a grassy patch of land the size of a soccer field that is heavily mined. If you're a Ukrainian soldier here, you don't need binoculars to observe the enemy -- you just look in his direction.

Guns of August by the great Barbara Tuchmann is masterful. And about as gloomy a view of mankind as possible, chronicling the unfolding events that would plunge Europe and the world into an absolutely senseless, pointless, brutal, inhuman war.

But some great music came as a result from Ravel and Vaughan Williams.

Putin should beware of wasting his healthy young men. Russia has very few of them to waste as compared to the old days. I wonder how many of Putin’s relatives are serving on the front lines.

Putin seems to like to follow up the Olympics with seizing territory from Ukraine. I imagine by 2024 he’ll have conquered the whole country.

The one good thing about Soros having all that
money is that they will keep him alive until he’s
a vegetable , unable to communicate, defecate, or urinate
under his own control.

“You know what the Ukraine is? It’s a sitting duck. A road apple, Newman. The Ukraine is weak. It’s feeble. I think it’s time to put the hurt on the Ukraine.”

All sides marched off thinking the war would be glorious and last a few weeks.
At the the battle of the Somme there were over one million casualties.
British casualties on the first day were the worst in the history of the British army, with 57,470 British casualties, 19,240 of whom were killed.
I read somewhere that German machine-gunners actually stood up at one point and waved the British back, trying to get them to stop advancing and being mowed down like stalks of wheat.

It is the sad history of Ukraine, literally a gateway to Europe to have been fought over by so many so long. I have found them to be good people in the main, and the country is just beautiful.
