I’m a privacy advocate. This doesn’t seem like a good thing to me.

In principle, you are correct.

However, do you think for one minute those who were hacked would give a rip about whether or not you were hacked?

Besides, these are elected officials. How dare the peons try to contact them?

Yep, how many times during the Obama years has the information of citizens been hacked from government computers? Several, yet nothing is done (not that Obama's solution would be the right or constitutional one). Clearly, it seems that neither party gives a rip about privacy or security, so no tears shed here for these folks, but especially the Democrats who clearly could care less about the Rule of Law.
