Good question, but what other options were there, really. And the truth of the matter is that Trump’s philosophy is very in tune with the Republican base, just not the party bigwigs.
I view this as a shareholder revolt on behalf of the base being lead by Trump so that just perhaps, we may once again have at least one party that gives a damn about the country.
Did Mitt fit? I don’t think so, but we voted for the snake anyways.
Because the Democrat Party is the Felon Party, and Trump's not a Felon.

The Democrat Party? Hell, no! They are the cause of our problems!
The Republican Party? They are worthless, but they hold Congress (in name only).
The Losertarian Party? Let Gary and Billy have their sandbox.
The Green Party? The stupid old witch moonbat from Lexington? Be serious!
So, obviously, the GOP it must be ... the Fifty Lice notwithstanding!
