The Most Important Election...Again
American Thinker ^ | August 19, 2016 | Bruce Walker

Every presidential election in the last fifty years has been called, in the heat of the campaign, the "Most Important Election of Our Lifetime," or something like that. We live so much in the ephemeral moment, the endless cascade of "important news," which is neither important nor news, that it is easy for us to believe that this election really, really matters.

Who honestly can say that if Romney or McCain beat Obama or that if Kerry or Gore beat Bush or that if Dole beat Clinton or Ford beat Carter or Humphrey beat Nixon, that our world – especially the messes in our world – would be very different from how they are today? JFK, had he not been killed, would have likely lost in 1964 and would today be as inconsequential as Herbert Hoover in our view of American history.

The vast majority of presidential elections have been modestly important but never really important, except for Reagan in 1980 and, to a lesser extent, Reagan's 1984 re-election. The next elections that matter were Lincoln's election and reelection in 1860 and 1864, although the legacy of Lincoln, though important, is also mixed (especially the usurpation of supreme power by Washington).

FDR did dreadful things…but Hoover planned to do many of those dreadful things himself in a second term, and Hoover had begun many of the long reaches of federal executive power as secretary of commerce and then as president. Both men were captives of their time, when all the smart people were talking about the need for planning and intervention and increasing federalizing programs.

In 2008, I lived in the seattle area, where I had lived since 1966. Two weeks before the 2008 election, I bought a 12 acre farm in south-central KY, partly as a bug out place.

And here is the deal: I thought McCain was going to win.

Why are the last two the most important? Because we were trying to get rid of or keep anti-American leftist scum out of office who have done untold damage to the Republic in both instances.

In my lifetime, there has NEVER been an election in which a Supreme Court seat was open and the new president would get an immediate Scotus nomination.

Making that more important is the tendency on many issues for the court to come down tied. Anthony Kennedy and John Roberts are both totally unreliable.

I’d call it a liberal court already with Kennedy on it.

I’ll say it. And this author is a fool.

If Dole would’ve beat Slick, we wouldn’t be facing the prospect of a Hildabeast presidency.

"... solve the real problem of our time: the constant erosion of the power of individuals and the power of state governments because of the constant and steady pull of everything to Washington. The man who solves this will restore the wholesome self-regulation that is competition among states and the liberation of the individual, which is also intimately connected to restoring the genuine sovereignty of the states.

I think Trump IS going to try to fix this pooled power among the political class.....Lincoln was the worst, his removal of Habeas Corpus gave him the power of the King...began the destruction of the U.S. Constitution. Lincoln, ever the clever lawyer was a despot; not the mythical Lincoln portrayed in our text books.

If Trump doesn’t win in November it will be all over for republicans.

In four years Hillary will add enough illegals and new muslim immigrants to guarantee a democrat monopoly until the US collapses.

Once she gains a permanent liberal majority on the Supreme court they will just rubber stamp whatever she does.

We will see mass amnesty, mass immigration, mass fast track granting of citizenship, mass releases of convicts and restoration of voting rights for felons.

The money she will spend pandering to the moocher classes to keep them voting democrat will make Obama look like a tightwad Scrooge McDuck.

2012 was the most important to date. Barack Hussein Obama had proven himself so terrible and so dangerous that voting him out was essential for our country’s freedom. We failed.

2008 was the most important to date. Barack Hussein Obama talked like an anti-American communist so dangerous that electing him would pose a clear and present danger to our country’s freedom. We failed.

Neither 2004 nor 2000 could reasonably be described as the most important to date. Bush, Kerry, and Gore were all more or less acceptable choices, although George W. Bush was the best of the three.

Neither 1996 nor 1992 could reasonably be described as the most important to date. Clinton was a disgusting sleaze, and he personally lowered national standards, but George H. W. Bush, Dole, and Clinton were all more or less acceptable choices politically.

1988 was not exceptionally important either. After Reagan, the greatest president in many generations, America had a buffer. Dukakis would have been bad, but we could easily have handled his incompetence.

1980 and 1984 were both important elections. At one of the most important times in history - the communist block’s failure (at the time many thought communism itself was falling, but it’s back and in our White House) - we elected exactly the right leader to topple the Soviet Union without a global war. Those really were critical elections.

1976 - Carter/Ford - was not all that important.
1972 - Nixon/McGovern - mattered in the short term because McGovern was far too socialist, but far less in the long term.
1968 - Nixon/Humphrey - was not a big deal. The differences between those two politically were relatively small.

I could go on, but it’s hard to find elections that were anywhere near as important as the past few.

Of all our elections though, 2016 is by far the most important. America has been dramatically weakened by Obama’s predatory and parasitic followers. Our Constitution and especially our Bill of Rights have been gutted. Our economy is severely damaged. After eight years of Obamacare and big government intervention into everything from the definition of marriage to compulsory baking of wedding cakes, this is the last opportunity to possibly save freedom. If Hillary wins, America will die, and the world will enter our worst era since the Dark Ages (or possibly ever).

If Hillary wins, I’m not preparing for 2020 - I’m preparing for the collapse of civilization. I hope I’m wrong, but I expect a level of tyranny unimaginable in the West since 1945, and with the modern surveillance state possibly beyond anything we have ever seen. I also expect the natural result of that tyranny: see Venezuela for details.

If Hillary manages to steal it and get away with it, there won’t be a 2020. For a flashback to what will happen after a successful Hillary theft, check the election in Germany that Hitler won. He immediately went after his political enemies and those that opposed him. Expect Hillary to do the same.

This is our last chance to save our country.
The Uniparty has been importing fraudulently documented foreigners for 30 years to dilute the voting power of the citizens.
In every election since the last amnesty, the GOP has nominated an amnesty candidate.
This time they got Trumped.
The last two Designated Losers had no intention of winning.
The Kenyanesian Usurpation required the full cooperation of both parties.

This is the most important, 16 years of Obama and Hillary is enough time to make our nation a socialist state forever.

BUMP to your post.

In my lifetime, there has NEVER been an election in which a Supreme Court seat was open and the new president would get an immediate Scotus nomination.

Reshaping the court WILL happen with the next president.

It's also true (IMHO), this is our last chance to take the USA from running off the cliff. We may still lose the war for America, even if Trump wins, but we WILL have lost it forever if Illary wins.

Welcome to FR. McLame is a looser.

It keeps us voting for one of the two Global Corporatists running for office. Because, ya know, just can’t let the “other side” win.

It was true in 2012, as well. Look at how much further into the crapper we have gone in the last four years.
